    Cannabis Genetics: How Breeders Actually Make a Strain

    A strain name suggests a fixed thing, like a dog breed. Cannabis genetics do not work that way, and the gap between what a name implies and what it delivers is the source of most consumer confusion.

Decades of selecting hard for THC narrowed commercial genetics considerably, and traits like disease resistance, drought tolerance and unusual cannabinoid ratios sit in landrace populations.     Why the Name on the Jar Fails You

    What Breeders Are Selecting For Now

    Priorities have shifted away from maximum THC. Current targets include specific cannabinoid ratios such as balanced THC and CBD, high-CBG cultivars, mould and mildew resistance, terpene profiles for extraction, and compressed flowering times for indoor cycling.
